BIG HERO 6 - REVIEW

Image
Based on the Marvel comics, Big Hero 6 was a 2014 CG-animated Disney film about a young inventor who befriends an inoffensive robot called Baymax before training it to become a fighting machine. 14 year-old genius Hiro Hamada is introduced to us participating in illegal robot fights and conning others with his misleadingly unassuming creations. His brother, in the hope of steering Hiro towards a better path, encourages him to apply for a university with an impressive research lab in which a team of quirky inventors get to be as creative as they can. After an unexpected accident, a mysterious villain shows up using one of Hiro's inventions on a dangerous scale so he and his friends, along with inflatable healthcare robot Baymax, decide to fight back and unmask their powerful enemy. Similar to how the marketing for Pixar's The Incredibles relied heavily on an out-of-shape Mr. Incredible trying to fit into his old superhero suit, Big Hero 6 was sold mostly through the ball

THE INCREDIBLE HULK - REVIEW

Image
Ang Lee's Hulk proving somewhat too ambitious and out-there for audiences in 2003, Marvel decided to reboot that franchise in 2008 with The Incredible Hulk . It followed Iron Man as the second film in the MCU and starred Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, a role he would not revisit. Directed by Louis Leterrier, this sort-of sequel finds Banner hiding out in Brazil after he's already been exposed to the Gamma radiation that turned him into The Hulk. He's been learning to control his rage and keeping a low profile working in a bottle factory but General Ross (William Hurt) has been hunting him down in order to harness his powers and turn him into a weapon. Liv Tyler replaces Jennifer Connelly as Bruce's love interest Betty (and Ross' daughter) but her role is sadly limited to making sad cry faces, actually crying and the odd awkward conversation. To be fair, the writing in The Incredible Hulk is mostly a little strange as it's not only poorly structured but th

BLACK PANTHER - REVIEW

Image
Marvel's latest spin-off movie,  Black Panther , sees Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa finally assume the Wakandan throne following his father's untimely death in  Captain America: Civil War . He soon, however, faces a powerful new threat in the form of Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). The character of Black Panther was one of the best aspects of Civil War and that, coupled with the promise of an excellent African-American cast, meant that there was a lot of hype surrounding this movie prior to its release. Indeed, there was a genuine attempt here to introduce one of Marvel's classic heroes in a unique and progressive way, at least compared to what we've seen so far from the MCU. Mostly set in Africa, Black Panther embraces its setting fully and the culture that's on display, from the traditional customs of Wakanda's fictional yet familiar utopia to its advanced technology, is refreshingly different and appealing. This is a gorgeous-looking movie with som
